MINORITY APARTMENT OWNERS ASSOCIATION - FOUNDED IN 1987

MISSION STATEMENT

The Minority Apartment Owners Association (MAOA) is an advocate for rental property owners in rent-controlled and non-rent-controlled communities. They are an information source and networking venue for rental property owners in the greater Los Angeles area. The MAOA works closely with public and private sectors in an effort to provide and maintain decent, clean, affordable housing to the residents of the community.

HISTORY

In September 1987, Malcolm N. Bennett, real estate broker and owner of International Realty & Investments, a long-established minority firm that is a leader in the apartment management field in South Los Angeles, formed the MAOA. It was designed as a source of information and networking opportunities for its members. It was the intent of the MAOA to develop and implement workable solutions to such concerns as graffiti-plagued properties, neglected and vacant apartment buildings, poor screening techniques, and effective operations in rent-controlled communities.

With these and other concerns at the forefront, members have an opportunity to participate with others in making certain that their needs are not forgotten in government policy decisions.
